Thomas Donaldson, MD

DARF Co-Director

 

Dr. Donaldson is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Adult Reconstruction who has been in practice in the Inland Empire since 1991. He was born and raised in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico, where his parents were active medical missionaries. He stayed in Puerto Rico until he was 18 and gained the ability to speak fluent Spanish, which has become a tremendous asset for his patients in Southern California and for Physician education in Central and South America. Dr. Donaldson received his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine in 1984. 

 

He completed his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at Loma Linda University Medical Center in 1990 and then spent a year in specialty training in Adult Reconstruction-Joint Replacement at the University of Pittsburgh with Dr. Harry Rubash.  Dr. Donaldson carries on a very busy private practice at Empire Orthopedics and  is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Orthopedics, Loma Linda University where he has participated in the education of over 100 Orthopedic Residents.  He remains the Director of Joint Replacement Surgery at Jerry L. Pettis Memorial VA Medical Center in Loma Linda, California.  Dr. Donaldson founded the Donaldson Arthritis Research Foundation and Research Center since 2005 and has collaborated with Dr. Ian Clarke in implant retrieval analysis and modern implant testing.
